Money & currencies

Currency math, live exchange rates, and your own custom rates.

Write money with $ € £ ¥ or a code like USD or CHF. Amounts keep their currency through the math, and a plain number joins in naturally: $680 + 240 gives $920, taking the currency from the other side. €, EUR, eur and euros are all the same currency, so mixing spellings is fine.

Converting between currencies

Convert with "in" or "to". About 30 currencies convert automatically using the daily European Central Bank reference rate, so no setup is needed.

Your own exchange rate

Declare a rate on any line and it overrides the live rate for the whole document, wherever the line sits. This makes shared documents reproducible: the rate travels with them.

Compound interest and investments

Ask about growth the way you would say it. Yearly compounding is the default; add compounding monthly or quarterly to change it. interest on gives just the earnings, and present value of discounts future money back to today.

Loan payments

For a repayment schedule, ask for the "payment on" a loan at a rate over a term. It returns the level monthly payment (standard amortization). Write the term in years or months.

payment on $15k at 7% over 48 months

Rates and hourly math

Prices per hour, per day, or per anything multiply naturally: the units cancel. Rates also convert between time bases, which answers the classic what-is-my-salary-per-month question, and per month after a yearly rate does the same conversion. Money and a money rate add up too: 4500 EUR/month - 1200 EUR is 3,300 EUR/month, the plain amount taking the rate's period.
