Privacy

The short version: OtterCalc has no accounts and asks for no personal data. We use Google Analytics to understand how the site is used, which sets cookies; the details are below.

What stays on your device

While you type, your draft (its text, title, and tags) is saved only in your browser’s local storage. So are your preferences: theme, language, number-format settings, and editor size. None of this leaves your device unless you choose to save a calculation.

What happens when you save

When you click “Save & get link,” the calculation’s text, title, tags, and computed results are stored on our server so the link can reproduce it. Anyone who has the link can open a saved calculation, and public ones appear in Explore. Please do not put anything private or sensitive in a calculation you save.

What we do not collect

• No accounts, names, emails, or passwords.
• We do not sell your data or use it to build advertising profiles.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics to see aggregate, anonymous usage, things like page views, rough country-level location, and device type, so we know what to improve. It sets cookies in your browser and sends this data to Google. Google uses your IP address to estimate location and then discards it; it is not stored. Google Analytics never receives the contents of your calculations, and it does not know who you are.

IP addresses

To prevent abuse, the server briefly counts recent saves per IP address in memory only. Your IP is never written to the database or to logs, and the count is discarded when the server restarts.

Third parties

• Exchange rates come from the European Central Bank’s public daily feed. We fetch the rate table on our server; your calculations are never sent to them.
• Fonts are served from our own servers, so your browser does not call any font CDN.

Removing a saved calculation

Since there are no accounts, there is no self-serve delete yet. If you want a saved calculation taken down, email us and we will remove it.
