About OtterCalc
OtterCalc is a calculator you write in plain words. Type a budget, a trip, a quote, or a conversion, one thought per line, and every line shows its answer as you type. Save any calculation and share it with a link that reproduces it exactly for anyone who opens it.
Why it exists
The calculators we loved most were desktop apps: fast, natural, and a joy to use, but tied to one machine and locked behind a purchase. We wanted that same “just type it” feeling on the open web. Something you can open on any device, hand to a friend as a link, and read in your own language and number format. Free to use, nothing to install, and the math is always exact. The engine computes every result, so we never guess.
A tip of the hat to Soulver
OtterCalc is inspired by Soulver, the app that pioneered the natural-language notepad calculator and set the bar we measure ourselves against. If you want a polished native app for your Mac or iPhone, buy Soulver. It is excellent and worth every cent.
What makes it different
- It lives on the web. Open it anywhere, nothing to install.
- Everything is shareable. Every calculation gets a link, and anyone can fork and remix it.
- It is multilingual. It works in English, Spanish and French, and results render in each reader’s own format.
- The math is honest. Results come from a deterministic engine, so a shared document means the same thing for everyone.
Say hello
OtterCalc is a small, independent project. Before asking a question, it is worth checking the docs, they cover most of what OtterCalc can do. For feedback, bugs, and ideas, we are genuinely happy to hear from you at [email protected].
